There are some useful tips that can be put into practice when you’re in the dental chair. First and foremost, be sure that you talk to your dentist. This is the best step to help you overcome your dental fears. Quite often our fears are larger than reality. If you speak honestly and openly with your dentist about the anxiety that you’re struggling with, you’ll be able to release some of that tension you’re also feeling. This will also allow your dentist to understand your needs.
Controlled breathing will help to relax your body. It can help to reduce stress and shift your attention to other focal points. This is helpful when you are at the dentist as you can avoid a lot of discomfort and anxiety.
When we are stressed, we tense up without even realising it, which can sometimes make us even more sensitive to discomfort than if we were relaxed. The easiest breathing techniques simply involve inhaling and exhaling through your nose for a slow count of three – so three seconds breathing in followed by three seconds breathing out. This technique is particularly useful as it also overcomes the breathing issues many of us feel when things are in our mouth.
There are a number of relaxation techniques that may work for you. You could bring music into your appointment with you, ask to have your favourite radio station on or just have the nurse chatting to you about something. Different relaxation and distraction techniques work for different people so try and find something that will work well for you.
Your dentist can offer you diazepam or a similar drug to calm your nerves before a dental procedure. -

I went for a check up at Crown Dental two weeks ago, after looking at my teeth for approximately 30 seconds the dentist told me I had been grinding my teeth therefore needing a mouthguard/splint and had three cavities. I was shocked as I had no prior issues with my teeth and was not experiencing any sensitivity. I was very distressed that my teeth had deteriorated so rapidly I wanted to get a second opinion. I went to a different dentist in Dublin and I was told my teeth were 100% fine. Therefore I would NOT recommend visiting this dentist.

Dr Erika is very thorough, meticulous and experienced, and explains each stage of the treatment at each visit, having first carried out a detailed examination (including X-Ray, where necessary), and explaining the treatment required. Her primary focus is on conservation and restoring the health and functioning of the teeth at minimum cost, and she does not suggest unnecessary additional treatment. She uses high quality and health-compatible dental materials and components in the treatment of her patients. The clinic is equipped with sophisticated and high-tech equipment. The clinic is bright and very hygienic, with extra Covid measures being adopted to provide maximum protection to patients and staff. Dr Erika's fees are very competitive.
